The ALERT-2 Protocol Development project is designing and implementing a suite of next-generation wireless communication protocols for use in automated flood warning systems (AFWS). The initial project includes several major activities:
The Requirements Specification and Protocol Specification documents, as well as other material created by this project, will be available on the "Project Documents" page. The "Overview" page contains a more detailed description of the project.
The ALERT-2 Protocol Development project is funded by the Department of Commerce (DOC) National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) under the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program. The initial work described here is funded by a Phase I SBIR contract awarded to Salo IT Solutions, Inc. (SaloITS).
The wireless communication protocols developed by this project will provide an alternative to the original ALERT protocol. These new protocols are expected to leverage modem technology being developed by Blue Water Design LLC with funding from NOAA and the ALERT Users Group. Additional information about the original ALERT protocol, the limitations of the original ALERT protocol, and the new modem being developed for ALERT systems can be found on the "Resources" page.
Check the "News" page for recent announcements related to this project.
